Friends,
Mercury retrograde has always gotten a bad rap. Yes, comms breakdown, printers run amuck, and suddenly you’re the fucking asshole in the theater who mistakenly forgot to turn their cell phone off. It’s a time for hiccups and slightly clunky mistakes; perhaps an email of brevity comes off more cranky than it should, or you could develop a hesitation to commit to an event or experience, and then there’s that godawful glitch in the timeline that shows itself when you see someone on the street you no longer speak to.
The blame comes easy, and annoyance grows thick.
But here’s my version:
Send the follow-up email, ask for advice from people who have careers you want to emulate, enter each conversation with a personal understanding to yourself that they can only meet you where they are — not where you are, ask the price, volunteer to handle the scheduling so you have the most control, take the meeting, keep your head down and stay focused, double text when you have something important (or not important to say), write down the ideas that have been swimming in your head, it is rarely about you so just let it go, and finally — running and rushing aren’t advantageous for the plot; get there early so you can look around and take notes.
Mercury will station direct on August 28th, so until then, meet whatever is coming for you head-on. We’re too grown for otherwise.

Men Have Called Her Crazy: A Memoir by Anna Marie Tendler. I listened to the audiobook and consumed it in two days. An honest, perceptive, and emotional journey from girlhood to womanhood, Tendler does not hold back, giving credit where credit is due, good or bad, ugly or pretty. The themes she explores are familiar to so many women, and I can share that I felt found among these pages. A beautiful debut and a must-read as we shift from brat summer to demure fall.
I’m never afraid to be cliche, and so, to that end, The Book of Delights by Ross Gay is sincerely a DELIGHT. His tone, the architecture of this collection, and the slip into ease I felt while reading it could only be described as JOY. This book came along with me in my tote to the UK, France, and Italy, and I savored every page. I ended my reading of it on my favorite beach on Long Island, and here’s the sunset from a few weeks ago—a delight.
