The first of many.
Quite literally the reason for the name of this publication to change to the double text is because I continue to rail against knowing how to use all the settings of creating this newsletter and also, like, a lot of other technology. Please, please, please, never ask me to print.
So while there are many things and parts of Substack that I’ve found are deeply straightforward and remarkably easy, changing the email sender name is obviously not one of them :) so if you noticed the wrong sent name in the horoscopes note, well, oops!!! If you didn’t, well, ignore this part.
So anyways, here’s a few things I’ve been focused on that I think you should know about —
On the latest episode of Club Shay Shay, Shannon Sharpe talks to Mo’Nique about literally everything and EVERYONE and alllllll the ways that her peers and Hollywood have done her dirty. Unfortunately, the least shocking is how awful Kevin Hart treated her. I say least shocking because he long ago revealed himself to be the type of man who cheats on his pregnant wife, so to learn he abandoned Mo’Nique after a ton of empty promises is to be expected. There’s so much more that she unraveled, about Oprah, Tyler Perry, and the TV/Film industry at large. It’s definitely worth the watch.
I am so very confused yet I cannot unsee what I’ve read about Ballerina Farm. No seriously, I cannot unsee it and I wish I could.
Right now there’s an enormous amount of chatter if Taylor Swift will selfishly pollute our air in order to make it to her boyfriend’s football game on time on Sunday, which is inspiring a lot of further chatter of will she make a surprise performance during the halftime show. I doubt she will perform (or maybe she will???) but I could bet she will show up, and tbh, as much as I love her, it would probably be in the best interest of her RePuTaTioN to not. Or to go in deep disguise so maybe she could have a moment of peace and stop making the NFL so much freaking money - cuz they don’t deserve it! Our girl is not one to handle bad press well so I’m sure these last few days have been rough on her. I don’t deserve Tree Paine’s number because I’d probably just end up texting her lyrics in all caps as I scream-sing every other album but Midnights (with the exception of 3 songs!!!) but someone should tell her to tell T to catch a commercial flight every now and then and that suing college kids is not the move.
I don’t care about Usher. Or football for that matter. Sorry. BUT I do want to remind you that this is the most important Super Bowl performance of all time. Whitney performed the Star Spangled-Banner as the United States was embroiled in the Gulf War, and despite that the papers haven’t yet called what we’re living through as America’s next war, doesn’t mean it’s not happening. I miss Whitney. And I miss America, too. We don’t know her and that’s scary as we roll into yet another clusterfuck of an election year.
But if I have to name a favorite halftime show then it’s Lady Gaga, and her documentary remains a favorite of mine, too. We slept on Joanne and I will fight anyone in the streets about this. So since we’re getting new music soon, I think we should prepare ourselves!! Also other concerts that had football before and after include: The Queen. And Prince.
Btw I don’t know why my brain brought this up but this tweet (RIP Twitter) also continues to live rent free in my head. (And no I did not like *his* halftime show.)
